During Friday's lunch rush, money was stolen from the cash register at The Grill, a tourist trap in New York City that serves thousands of customers, and all employees are being questioned. Most of them are illegal immigrants trying to keep their jobs, the only legitimate jobs in the world, while preparing endless meals and trying to keep up with the constant flow of orders. One of the cooks is Pedro, a young Mexican looking for more in life than his job offers. He's a dreamer and a troublemaker, and he's in love with Julia, an American waitress who can't establish a relationship with an undocumented foreigner. Rashid, the restaurant owner, promises to help Pedro with his papers. However, when Pedro is accused of theft and also discovers that Julia has had an abortion, he loses his head and commits an act that stops the kitchen once and for all. Based on the famous play by Arnold Wesker, this tragicomic tribute to the invisible people who prepare our food. After the screening, look forward to a discussion with the director himself, Alonso Ruizpalacios, who will be coming to Lucerna in person!
